An overcast but otherwise fine late Autumn day with no wind to speak of, greeted 30 plus riders for our second Tri-annual T.A.R.T. run.
Members from all around made the journey to the start point at the Fyansford Hotel car park, a short distance from the ring road, including a number of committee members. Allan Prentice and Chris Price made the trip again from the Wonthaggi/Leongatha area, a great effort and good to see them again. With the meet , greet and briefing done it was time to crank up the old classics and get underway. Corner marshalling needed to be adhered to as the route was a makeup as you go affair. For all those that have not done this ride before they can now see what great roads the Geelong group get to enjoy on a regular basis.
From Fyansford we travelled along the Hamilton Highway for a couple of K`s or so then turning left to Barrabool Road then Andersons Road winding our way up and down the hills before crossing onto the Princes Highway to Mt Moriac ,turning left again into Hendy Main Rd. to Moriac . Continuing on to Paraparap/Layard, taking in the tree lined undulating hills along Vickery`s and Gundy`s roads. A short run along Anglesea Rd. doing a right hand turn at the roundabout onto Jan Juc Rd. toward Torquay, then making another right up and down the Three Sisters to Bones Rd. moving in an anticlockwise direction to Bell`s Beach for a brief stop to regroup and take in the magnificent view of the ocean and surf break. Along the way a lost rider from the vintage club also joined us on a pre-war J.A.P. engined Excelsior.
From Bell`s Beach we curved back around over the Three Sisters in reverse , back along Jan Juc Rd. turning left at Duffields Road ,( more hills ),up to Grossmans Road, across the Surf Coast Highway to the foreshore and stopping at the Torquay Bowling Club for lunch.
Many thanks must go to Andy Symons ,having organised this venue at very short notice, as well as doing the back up trailer duties .It`s great to have such a good right hand man to help.
The Bowls club had a wide variety on the menu at affordable prices to cater for all and in a scenic location overlooking the ocean. I believe this arrangement was far better than the first TART run in 2014 and would like some feedback on this for future reference. Now that the bowls club know we are not the Hell`s Angels or the like , they are keen to have us back again .
After a relaxed lunch break it was just a relatively short run back to the start point. Some of the local riders opted to veer off at this point , whilst the rest of us proceeded along straighter roads until reaching the Barrabool Hills coming off the old Princes Highway winding uphill to Ceres , down Dale to Merrawarp Road retracing the start of the ride back to Fyansford. The ranks had thinned somewhat as the long distance riders continued on and the others loaded the older machines onto trailers. Speaking to as many as I could, all seemed happy with the day, with that your input helps to make it better.
