Club Run to All British Rally Maldon

Thirteen riders and one pillion met at the BP Servo Rockbank for our club ride to Maldon.

The morning was warm with threatening skies, so mostMaldon 1 opted for wet weather gear.........

Ride leader Graham gave the pre ride briefing and off we rode at 9.00 am sharp, our route took us out the Western Freeway to the Daylesford turnoff where we picked up Simon Turner, then a noticeable drop in temperature on the approaches to Daylesford with annoying misty rain. Leaving Daylesford we added Richard Sommerville to the group.
Following Graham we passed through Newstead and arrived at Maldon at around 10.30 am. Graham stopped us in an area just outside Maldon Township which would become our leaving point at 12.30 pm sharp. “If you’re not hear at 12.30 pm we will be leaving without you” he warned.
Parking our bikes in Maldon, we spent a pleasant hour or so looking at a HUGE assembly of British motorcycling history. Everything from never touched with loads of patina machines, to superbly restored to better than when they were new machines, right through to (in my opinion) inappropriately modified / chopped, over chromed look at me statements. Oh well we all have different tastes I suppose! Many fantastic bikes and so many in the one place at the same time made for an incredible spectacle.Maldon 3Maldon 4

Maldon 5We met up with numerous other Club members wandering around, so plenty of time to catch up for a chat before heading back to our pre-arranged Maldon departure point and Graham wasn’t there at 12.30 pm - we jokingly threatened to leave without him, but it was all bluff – we waited, it wasn’t long before he arrived and we proceeded to Castlemaine for a refuel then on to Malmsbury for lunch at the gourmet bakery. The ride back to Melbourne took us through Kyneton, Woodend, Gisborne and Toolern Vale, finishing at Rockbank. Thanks Graham for a great day, thanks also to Tom for the TEC duties.I ended up doing 426 kms in total for the day.                            Ian Snadden
