Not having ridden for a couple of weeks it was great to unwrap the BM and head east into the rising sunlight to meet the ride at Officer on the M1 Pakenham Bypass. We were all encouraged by the forecast of good weather and although the early morning air was cool, conditions later in the day bordered on hot. Before leaving we admired Kay’s new Triumph shining in the early morning sun.......
Ed briefed on the ride and we were soon following him at a brisk pace east along the M1 before turning right to Koo-Wee-Rup south and across the market gardening plains to Bunyip. Soon we were into good motorcycling country in the Jindivik – Tarago – Neerim area before relaxing over coffees at Neerim South where Paul and Greg joined us. Many wasps also joined us here but we all avoided a sting.
We later followed Ed up hill and down dale and around the countless corners south from Neerim South to Poowong. Thousands of dairy cattle looked on as 17 motorcyclists roared past enjoying themselves. Well most of did – it was an unlucky day for Ians. Ian Roddick suffered a puncture and Ian Snadden a persistent electrical gremlin. Ian with the puncture was rescued by the RACV, and Ian with the electrical gremlin battled it by wedging a glove into the offending area of his bike, catching up with the ride later.
From Poowong Ed led us back north to Drouin for lunch after which we made our different ways homeward, happy with an enjoyable day of riding in good company. Ian’s gremlin stopped him several times but Graham kept him company on the way home. Thanks to Ed The Navigator for another great day out on well chosen roads. John Best.
