 In view of the weather forecast seven stalwarts and Jack Youdan as Back up trailer were present at the Shell Servo adjacent to the “Apple Peel” in Templestowe. All welcomed guest rider Phil Pegg on his new Suzuki Boulevard
The weather at this point was threatening but not storming as we set off at 9:30 behind our leader Richard Haughton. The route took us to Warrandyte, Kangaroo Ground then over the Christmas Hills Road to the Melba. There were two official Traffic Revenue officials along the road that were well announced by the oncoming traffic but we were riding at a reasonable pace so it was not a worry.

It is a lovely road and this morning there was little or no traffic. At the Melba we turned right up to the Yarra Track and across to the Toolangi road into Healesville to our destination the Beachworth Bakery for morning tea. At this point Ted Lhuede elected to ride straight home so he missed the next sector.
Our return took us over the Toolangi Road, which although a bit messy after the storm was beautiful as ever and a joy to ride. We turned down towards Yarra Glen to retrace our journey over Christmas Hill Road and there was only one Revenue Agent to monitor our speed. We detoured through Research and Eltham to complete the circle at the Peel.
The riders, less Jack, then called in to our place to have a look at our new RV before heading home.
This was the maiden run of Kay’s Rebel, now no longer Black but Purple and it ran without any major incidents. This, of course, made her happy. It was the focal point of the start up as all were interested in how the restoration turned out. All comments were favourable. Our thanks to Jack and his trailer that was not needed on this run.
