June Midweek Ride PDF Print E-mail

june_midweekHave you reached that stage in your motorcycling life that when a run is presented you say to yourself “Been there, done that, a dozen times.  Guess I will give this one a miss. If so, then obviously you have not indulged yourself in one of Ed’s fabulous midweek rides.  Ed is a genius at remembering all these terrific country roads and today’s run was no exception.

In view of the weather being a bit foggy and cold one would expect a low turnout but no, 10 riders presented at the Shell Garage on Stud & FTG Roads.  After Ed advised us of the destinations for Morning Tea and Lunch we started off on Kellets Road and ended up in Pakenham where we had a very brief tour through a new housing development.  Well it really wasn’t a tour, just a small test to see if we were paying attention before we headed back up the mountain toward Emerald and Gembrook for morning tea.  The scenery was to kill for with all the trees turning to red and gold, the mist hanging over the mountain ranges and only a sprinkle or two of rain.  Of course Vic Roads had a “Make Work” project scheduled for almost every road with the obligatory stop to watch all the “Shovel Leaners” watching us.  Well, it is an election year.

Morning Tea with a Cheese Pastie at the Gembrook Bakery.  This is my first encounter with one of these and it was quite good.

Down the Launching Place Gembrook road.  This is a magnificent road although a bit tricky in spots.  It does seem to spread the riders out a bit as you tend to notice when marshalling.

Down the Warburton to Healesville-Koo Wee Rup Rd to Beenak Rd, then Monbulk Seville Rd to the Warburton again.  The way Jack was parked I wasn’t quite sure which way to turn but I knew where Monbulk was so I turned left.  WRONG! Should have gone right and I was on my own to Monbulk.  Had I turned right the route was off on Sunny Hill Rd to Ford Hill and then on to Gruyere Rd, backs on the Seville Monbulk Rd to Monbulk.  When I arrived at Monbulk I found a place to park and sat down and waited.  It turned out to be a bit of a wait as there was a slight mix up on one of the turns causing Ed to Back track and pick up the strays.  All part of the fun!

Lunch at Monbulk.  Cameron and I had soup that was advertised as Tomato/Bacon.  It tasted much more like Minestrone, which I think it, was.  They probably could not spell minestrone.  It was quite good and after the break we headed off to FTG via the Mt Dandy to Burwood Hwy and FTG Rd to the servo where we completed the loop.

Another magnificent rides, thanks to Ed.’s incredible skill.
