Colac Heritage Rally

colac_heritageOn Sunday morning fourteen bikes left Ballarat and headed for Colac, when we arrived another four from colac_heritage_2Geelong also arrived , there were other bikes from Colac there as well .
Malcolm and Christine had a spot for us all to put our machines on display for the public to view. As we walked around there was plenty for us to see , a shed full of classis and vintage cars, and outside many displays to view, sheep shearing , stationary engines , tractors etc, also a tractor pull was in constant action and it was interesting to watch some of the old single cylinder bull dogs etc, the torque they could develop and how low the rev’s would go before the operator would throw the clutch , you could practically count the revs

Gippsland Classic Rally
gipps_rallyStarted off unofficially at the motels in Maffra & Stratford when everyone checked in a renewed acquaintances after the Xmas break.
Much socializing was done, before around 60 people gathered at the Maffra Community Sports club for dinner.
It was a competition again to see who could win the most raffle draws for the night.

Saturday, With a total of 85 bikes taking part in the Gippsland Classic Rally for 2010,   they gathered at The Maffra Shed for a quick cuppa & a briefing before heading off to Stratford as the Avon river had about 300 mm of water over the causeway, so a couple of Klms of highway had to be used to detour around towards Fernbank.

Midweek Ride Feb

feb_midweekTwelve of us gathered in bright sunshine at the start in Gladstone Park and after the usual briefing by Ed we were off at 9:00am.
I will mention every area that we rode through in order and readers can, if they wish, get out their favourite Vic map and work out the actual route taken.
The areas we rode through were:  Greenvale, Oaklands Junction, Wildwood, Clarkfield, Bolinda, Kerrie, Hesket, Newham, Cobaw then to the Lancefield bakery for morning tea.  Brilliant riding so far and hardly a tin top in sight.
See the Gallery for photos of the ride.

Midweek Ride Jan

A fine sunny day was promised by the weather forecast, and this along with the ride being in the holiday period brought a good turn out including classics to our meeting place at the Lyndhurst servo on Thomson's Road at the north end of the Mornington Peninsula. Ed led us south-east towards Gippsland and the landscape quickly became agricultural with rows of hale bales all around and rows of large pine trees planted long ago for wind breaks and shade.  Herds of black and white cows started to become commonplace and I recall a waft of manure as we passed a piggery.
