Tom's Triumph TT Special

tom_ttThe above words certainly describes it all, a one off  “Triumph TT Special”. Tom purchased the bike, if it could be called that (a bike) as rolling basket case, two wheels, frame and the rest was a box of bits and now as he looks back he says a wrecked basket case was the ultimate description.

Tom then set about to build a bike that was different to the everyday run of the mill machine and he certainly succeeded in that, in 1991 the work began!

Colac Weekend Ride Report 2010

18th Colac Weekend Ride - 1st & 2nd May 2010
The weather was cool and fine for the start of our Saturday ride.
After greeting everyone and a rundown of today’s ride, we headed out of Colac to the south over Simons Hill, through Irrewillipe and on to Simpson for a short rest stop. After a few more kms we arrived at Apostle Whey Cheese for morning tea. Everyone enjoyed tasting the different varieties of cheeses with their cuppas. Refreshed, we rode onwards to the Great Ocean Road at Princetown. We soon arrived at Lavers Hill for a rest / petrol stop. Our next stop was the Otway NouriShed, located at Ferguson, for a light lunch. This country store was once a potato shed, and we ate our lunch in front of the wood fire, surrounded by historical displays of the local area.

A Much Valued BMW R100RS

tony__r100rsI bought this bike new 1982. In fact it is an “R100RSR”and is one of a limited edition of 37 bikes which BMW produced at the end of the twin rear shock era. As readers may know, the R100RS was introduced in 1977 and discontinued in 1984 before being reintroduced in 1988, by popular demand, with a single rear shock (the “monolever”).Perhaps the most striking feature of these bikes is the wonderful full fairing (shown in the photo with the lower half removed for summer riding). It was very exotic in its day and was dramatically advertised by BMW with striking photographs of the bike undergoing tests in the Volkswagen wind tunnel in Germany and showing, by means of smoke trails, the extremely effective protection provided to the rider.

Midweek Ride May

may_midweekFive old stagers met at the start in Laverton later to be joined by one other at the morning tea venue in Meredith. After a chat and for some, a hot coffee and briefing from Ed we were off on time.
A short run to Werribee down the Princes highway, through the town and then out west past the Ford proving ground and over to Anakie Junction before riding up the hilly winding road through the Steiglitz Historic Park (great riding along here) and on to the Meredith café/store and PO for morning tea. Always good value here and run by pleasant proprietors. Here we were joined by Burger Drake on his lovely Vincent.

Motoring Heritage Day Ride

heritage_rideThis was a day for old bikes so I was hopeful of a good turn up. I drove in fog to the Ferntree Gully start point wondering if club members would be put off and found about fifteen keen type people were already there at 9.30. There were Vincents, Triumphs, Velos, AJS, BSA and Nortons as well as two Indians! I think the Indians really add something special to the day. Connor said that there will be at least a dozen Indians at the Brass Monkey to be held in Maryborough in July so I will look forward to that. Then in came a fabulous Laverda 1200 that  I had to drool over. By the starting time there were 21 Motorcycles with the earliest a 1926 and most were pre 1980.
