AN INTRODUCTION TO

 

THE CLASSIC MOTOR CYCLE CLUB OF VICTORIA Inc.

ORIGINS

Founded by a small group of enthusiasts in March 1971, the Classic Motor Cycle Club of Victoria (Club) has progressively developed to become one of the leading period motor‑cycle enthusiast organisations in Australia.It has a current membership in excess of 300, and provides a wide range of activities and support facilities for the benefit and enjoyment of those interested in machines and history of the classic motorcycle period. 

CLUB OBJECTIVES

·         To satisfy the special needs of motorcycle enthusiasts having a particular interest in the acquisition, restoration, riding and general appreciation of machines produced during the loosely defined classic period from about the introduction of the saddle type tanks and generally not less than 25 years old.

 

·         The structure and management of the Club's organisation is in accordance with its detailed constitution, and provides a comprehensive range of features, events, and facilities intended to achieve the club's objectives, and include

 ·         Formal management group /committee.

·         Monthly meeting for Club members.

·         Publish and issue a Club magazine

.·         Active promotion of the use of Club member’s machines, and arrangement of a wide range of suitable events for this purpose.

·         Provision of technical library, and the opportunity for discussion and exchange of information during Club meetings and outings

.·         Active program of in‑house and external speakers at Club meetings on a wide range of technical and general topics relevant to Club member’s interests.

·         Encouragement of machine restoration standards through regular judging day events with appropriate awards.

·         Close liaisons with other clubs with similar interests, and regular interchange of information on future events, and other issues of mutual interest.

·         Dialogue with appropriate authorities in respect to issues of importance including road safety~ proposed legislation, etc.

·         Promotion of the social aspects of Club activities through the inclusion of suitable events to encourage wide participation of family groups, etc. 

MEETINGS

Meetings are held on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 8:00 PM at Sturgess Hall, Chatfield Avenue, Deepdene
(MEL 46 A8).
 

CLUB MAGAZINE ‑ "SPROCKET"

An excellent club magazine, "Sprocket", is published and mailed monthly to all financial members. Its contents include club news, technical and restoration information, reports and notices of past and future events, classifieds, plus articles of special and general interest, all produced in a most attractive and readable format. 

ON ROAD EVENTS & ACTIVITIES

The Club actively promotes the use of club member's machines, and caters for this in various ways  

Day Runs

·         These are arranged on a regular basis, usually monthly, and consist of a day run of about 140 to 200 Km, starting from a convenient meeting place, and usually accompanied by a back‑up trailer in case of machine problems.

·         Runs are supervised by the Club Captain and are conducted at modest speeds in keeping with the age and condition of the machines, terrain and road conditions, with stops as required for re‑grouping, items of local interest etc.Club members can participate on modern machines, which are usually kept separate from the classics, and are often called on to assist the conduct of the run by performing marshalling duties as needed.

Longer Events

There are several 2 ‑ 3 day events arranged by the Club on an annual basis, which include Jan ‑ Otway Run (Based on Geelong)March ‑ Gippsland Classic Rally. (Moving Base) 

The Club also receives an invitation to join the Surf City Rally held in Warrnambool each November.

 

Special Events

 
  • Judging Day ‑ judging on machine restorations with associated awards and trophies.
 
  • Reliability/Time Trials ‑ Where participants attempt to maintain a declared average speed over a number of controlled sections or stages
 
  • Fuel Economy Runs ‑ To achieve the best fuel consumption for each class over a set course/route.
 

Extra Special Events

Some Events of this type that the club has organised to date are:

 
  • Anniversary run in April 1996 commemorating the 25th anniversary of the foundation of the Club. This was an 8 day event over a 1500 Km route in which over 60 classic machines participated. 
 
  • “The Big Ride” run in April 2006 commemorating the 35th anniversary of the Club’s foundation. This was a 5 day event over a 1300 km route through eastern and north-eastern Victoria. Over 70 classic machines participated.

     

Participation in Events Arranged by Other Clubs

Club members are invited to participate in events arranged and conducted by other clubs, the details of which are communicated to club members through appropriate notices and advices published in the club magazine, “Sprocket”. Any machine covered by a current Permit (“red plate”) issued by the Club is eligible to participate in any event notified in the "Sprocket" magazine. This arrangement provides a good range of possible outings for members.
